Recruiting doctoral students
There are several things to consider when recruiting a new doctoral student. Here is a summary of the procedures for announcing and selecting doctoral students:
- Each department establishes a doctoral studies group (FUG), typically comprising the department responsible for doctoral studies, a supervisor representative and a doctoral student representative.
- The FUG proposes the establishment of a doctoral studentship to the Head of Department/Department Board. This occurs when finances and projects allow, usually on the initiative of individual researchers.
- Doctoral positions must be advertised locally on the department’s and University’s websites for vacant positions according to current regulations.
- The supervisor makes a selection of the applicants for the doctoral studies in consultation with the department’s doctoral studies group. The Department Board confirms this selection.
- When submitting the "Application for admission to doctoral studies", it is also certified that the announcement and selection have been carried out as above.
- Advertising is not required when admitting doctoral students employed by a principal other than the University, such as a region, municipality or company.
- Advertising is not required when admitting to the later part of doctoral studies.
- The Research Training Committee (KUF) admits the doctoral student.
