Sponsorship

Sponsorship is a collaboration on business terms for the mutual benefit of two or more parties. There is no uniform definition of sponsorship, but the Swedish National Financial Management Authority (ESV) describes sponsorship as “an agreement whereby a sponsor provides the sponsored party with cash, goods or services in exchange for exposure of a company name or trademark and possibly other benefits” (unofficial translation).

Uppsala University invites companies and organisations to collaborate on certain selected, important projects. The public, employees and students should always be confident that Uppsala University’s activities are conducted objectively and correctly and that research and education are characterised by integrity and independence. All cases relating to sponsorship are to be carefully considered. There can be no requirement for decisive influence from external stakeholders in decision-making processes at Uppsala University.

Guidelines

• Regarding the right to make decisions on and sign sponsorship agreements refer to point 3.10 in the document Delegationsordning vid Uppsala universitet (UFV 2020/945). Please note the document is only available in Swedish.
• Sponsorship agreements may not be signed that give a sponsor the exclusive right to deliver goods or services to Uppsala University.
• Written agreements are to always be drawn up, regardless of the financial scope or whether compensation is paid in the form of goods or services instead of cash.

Sponsorship activities are coordinated by the Development Office in collaboration with the Legal Affairs Division and in close dialogue with Uppsala University’s management, faculties, departments, libraries, museums and other divisions within the university administration and directly with individual research teams and researchers.
