Parental leave and care for a sick child (vab)

Parental leave

You have the right to take full-time leave of absence at 100% until the child is 18 months old. Upon adoption of a child, the 18-month period begins from the day the child is in the employee’s care. You may also take partial parental leave until the child is 8 years of age, or has completed the first year of school. As a governmental employee, you may also take partial parental leave up until the school year when the child becomes 12 years of age.

Vab - sick child leave/temporary parental leave

Vab, the temporary parental leave benefit is used when the child is ill or when the regular caregiver is ill or otherwise unable to care for the child. The benefit may be transferred to another person, in case neither of the parents can take the time off, for instance gainfully employed grandparents or another person.
