Our collections

What does Gustavianum's collections consist of?

The Gustavianum handles hundreds of thousands of objects from different periods and places in the world. Here you can find objects from the ancient cultures of Egypt and the Mediterranean, archaeological finds and historical objects from the Nordic countries, extensive collections of art and coins as well as scientific objects and instruments.

Many items have been used in teaching and research at the university. They have been collected through expeditions and excavations or by donations and purchases.

What are the collections used for today?

The collections are still used today in teaching and research. When the Gustavianum reopens in the summer of 2024, many of the objects and their stories will also be available in the museum's new exhibitions.
