Family, gender and demography
Research within the theme Family, Gender and Demographics aims at analyzing shifting relationships between a number of aspects of the rapidly changing social dynamics in Sweden and broader European contexts.
These dynamic shifts are analyzed through theoretical lenses that combine concepts such as secularity, religiosity, values and practices as expressed in familial, institutional and civil society settings. It is within this expanding intersection of analyses that the theme finds its focus. Such focus highlights a range of tensions regarding the role of religious and secular modes of both private and public life.
This theme therefore represents a forum for researchers from various disciplines like anthropology, ethnology, sociology, law and political science. The aim is to produce innovative and critical theoretical and methodological concepts that are tested and modified through empirical research. The goal is furthermore to offer empirically grounded insights from the perspectives of different people involved in the actual practices, proceedings and debates concerning religious and secular diversity within Swedish and European contexts.

- Pia Karlsson Minganti och Mosa Sayed, Religiösa skilsmässor i en sekulär rättslig kontext. Om familjelivets mångfald och muslimska samfunds roll vid äktenskaps upplösning (Religious divorce in a secular legal context: Family diversity and the role of Muslim congregations in marriage dissolution). Finansierat av Ragnar Söderbergs Stiftelse, 2019-2021.
- Emin Poljarevic is the Swedish Management Committee Member in COREnet (Connecting Theory and Practical Issues of Migration and Religious Diversity), a COST Action initiative (CA20107). COREnet is an interdisciplinary research network that aims at knowledge production, knowledge exchange and capacity building across Europe in the intersection of migration and religious diversity with a particular emphasis on bottom-up research.
