Uppsala University maintains high sustainability ranking

Uppsala University is ranked 11th for the second year in a row in the QS World University Ranking: Sustainability –a global ranking focused on the performance of higher education institutions in sustainable development. Uppsala University ranks second among Swedish higher education institutions after Lund University.

The list was released for the first time in 2022, ranking 700 institutions. This year, almost 1,400 institutions worldwide have been ranked. Uppsala University ranks second among Swedish higher education institutions after Lund University in 8th place. A total of 15 Swedish institutions were ranked.

The ranking is divided into three parts: environmental impact, social impact and governance. The first two parts then consist of three and five sub-categories respectively, which in turn comprise multiple indicators. Uppsala University scores well across the board.

  • In environmental impact, Uppsala University comes in 11th place overall.
  • In social impact, Uppsala is ranked 49th.
  • In governance, Uppsala is ranked 23rd.

The subcategories in which the University ranks highest are environmental research (6), health and well-being (10) and environmental education (12).

The results are based on factors including self-reported data from Uppsala University, research data via Elsevier and reputation measurements conducted by QS. Other sources of data are used to support the rankings, including the United Nations, the World Bank, UNESCO and Yale University.
