Research at Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology

Research at IGP is basic, translational and clinical and there is a close collaboration between pre-clinical and clinical scientists.

Our research aims to increase the biological understanding of development and disease, and to improve diagnostics and treatment. The overarching goal is translational medicine, i.e. to link basic research with clinical applications, in disease areas such as cancer and genetic, autoimmune and degenerative diseases.

Research programmes

The research at IGP is organised in six research programmes where each programme gathers research groups with similar research interests.

Cancer Immunotherapy

Research in the programme Cancer immunotherapy focuses on the role of the immune system in cancer.

Cancer Precision Medicine

In the programme Cancer Precision Medicine we are trying to find the best strategy for preventing or treating cancer.

Genomics and Neurobiology

We are studying mechanisms in genetics, epigenetics and genomics, and the function of cells of the nervous system.

Molecular Tools and Functional Genomics

We are developing and using advanced techniques to study cells and their genomes.

Neuro-oncology and Neurodegeneration

Our research focuses on cancer of the nervous system and the eye, and amyloid diseases.

Vascular Biology

In Vascular Biology we study the mechanisms that regulate blood and lymphatic vessel growth and function.

Research infrastructures

IGP hosts seven research infrastructures that provide service for researchers inside and outside Uppsala University.
