Our Mission

Mental illness is becoming one of the biggest and most costly social issues of our time. Therefore, Uppsala University's Center for Women's Mental Health, WOMHER, was launched - a unique interdisciplinary center with the goal of producing evidence-based knowledge for future strategic decisions in working life and society. With the breadth of the university as our main strength, we create networks and educate a new generation of researchers who want to and can make a difference.

WOMHER is a unique interdisciplinary research center focusing on women's mental health in the reproductive age. WOMHER was formally established in 2019 when Uppsala University's consistory decided on the formation of the center and the research center could be inaugurated in April 2021.

WOMHER has two world-unique central parts with the goal of increasing knowledge about mental health in women of reproductive age:
