ISP core programme

ISP assists low and lower-middle income countries to build and strengthen research capacity and higher education in the basic sciences chemistry, physics and mathematics.

The core program at ISP consists of three sub-programs within physics, chemistry and mathematics.

The collaborations within each sub-program are mainly of two types:

  • Collaboration with a research group at a university department
  • Collaboration with a network of research groups at different departments in different countries.

ISP focuses its activities on providing assistance to create viable and independent research teams of an international standard.

In the countries with which ISP has cooperation, physics/chemistry/mathematics are normally weak and in a stage of development. In the support given, ISP also assists the departments in creating or strengthening their MSc and/or PhD programmes.

All activities to be supported are proposed by the groups in the respective countries and should be in line with the plans of the department, and follow national priorities.

Each of the three sub-programs has a reference group, that assists ISP to evaluate applications and acts as an advisory committee in scientific matters.
