About Geocentrum

Geocentrum is located in the Blåsenhus quarter. The area has historical roots, Queen Kristina's third castle garden was laid out in the area in 1643. The university was early involved in the area, mainly through the establishment of botanical gardens. The first department in the area was the Department of Plant Biology, whose building is located just north of Geocentrum.

In 1997, institutions linked to Earth sciences moved to the area. For this purpose, SGU had left parts of the older building from the 60s and together with the now erected new part, the Geocentrum was created. Operations were moved from "Kvarteret Lagerträdet", which was then transformed into the Evolutionary Biology Centre.
