Frequently asked questions

On this page you can find answers to the most common questions we get from students

Admission and registration

I missed the application date. What do I do?
If the application is closed you can not apply. Many of our courses will open for late application on July 15 (fall courses) or December 15 (spring courses).

I can't register in Ladok?
Registration for the fall courses will open on July 26th. For some courses, you register during your first class or by contacting the teacher.

Can I re-register to a course?
Email info@lingfil.uu.se to see if it's possible.

Why does the admissions site say I'm not eligible?
Either the final requirement check is not done yet, or something is missing. Please make sure you have uploaded all relevant documentation to antagning.se or universityadmissions.se.

When will I know if I'm accepted?
If you have applied to an international Master's Programme you can find relevant dates on the Master's Programme site.

If you have applied to our regular courses you will get your first acceptance letter in mid-July or mid-December. Don't forget to reply to this!

If you have made a late application it will usually take between 7 and 14 days to get an answer.

I forgot to reply to my acceptance offer. What do I do?
The only thing you can do now is make a new (late) application to the course. Your acceptance has been cancelled, and we can't put you back.

Schedule, syllabus and literature

Where do I find the schedule and course information?
You can find most of the information on the course page in Studium.

Where do I find information about the course literature?
You can find this information through the Syllabus and reading list search.

Can I see the schedule for next semester?
When you are admitted to the course you will be able to view your schedule through uu.se/student and on the course page in Studium.

Teaching

Can I take the course as a distance course?
Only courses announced as distance courses can properly be taken through distance studies. There is usually no problem if you miss a few classes (unless they are part of the examination), but we can not recommend taking a campus course without attending class.

Can I record the lectures?
You need to ask the teacher holding the lecture. If the teacher says no you are not allowed to record the lecture.

Will recordnings of the lectures be made available?
Many of our distance courses provide pre-recorded lectures. Campus courses usually don't record their lectures, except for in some cases. Ask the teacher at the beginning of the course.

Is the language of instruction English?
Courses shown on universityadmission.se always have English as language of instruction (or may be taught in English if there are students without strong enough Swedish).

Courses shown on antagning.se can be taught in either Swedish or English. It is stated in the information given there which language it is.

Exams

You can find rules, guidelines, and information about the exam halls on UU's pages about exams.

How do I sign up for an exam?
You sign up for your exam in Ladok. You can also find your anonymity code there. Please note that you MUST be signed up to be let into the exam hall.

If you have a registration from an earlier semester and can't find the exam sign-up in Ladok, please email info@lingfil.uu.se and we will help you.

I forgot to sign up for the exam, can you help me?
Email the Student Office at info@lingfil.uu.se. We can help you up until four days before the exam. If you are later than that you can't sign up and will need to wait for the next exam.

Can I write the exam somewhere else?
If your teacher accepts that you write your exam elsewhere it is possible. You must then find a place to do the exam on the same date and time as in Uppsala, as well as a contact person who can administer the exam where you are. Acceptable places for a written exam are other higher education institutions, learning centres, schools or libraries.

When you have come to an agreement with your contact person you email the information to info@lingfil.uu.se, and we will handle the rest.

Other questions

Can i transfer credits from earlier studies?
If your earlier studies correspond to courses given at Uppsala university it may be possible to transfer credits. Read more on our page about credit transfer.
