About the course
Different types of electric motors for electric propulsion systems. Design of permanent magnet synchronous motors. Magnetic and magnetically coupled circuits. Principles of electromechanical energy conversion. Design of the synchronous motor. Electrical and magnetic material parameters. Losses, normal operation, faults and transients in the electric motor. Active field weakening, magnet working curve and risk of demagnetization of magnets. Mechanical design of an electric motor and cooling system. Motor design with Finite Element Method (FEM). Alternative and innovative motor types. Basic principles of motor control, including start-up and change of direction of rotation.
